Silent as an owl in flight, a pink and dark gray shape surfaced, took a breath, and descended again. A series of clicks were sent out and returned seconds later. She was in shallow water. Perhaps there were a few fish she could catch here? The river dolphin rolled onto her side and swam to the surface. Her small pectoral fin flat at her side, the female looked around the shore line. A macaw sat on a branch above the river. A smirk crossed her face. A little fun couldn't hurt, right?
The female disappeared. The macaw screeched to another macaw nearby. The female river dolphin was nowhere in sight, but that soon changed. The river dolphin launched herself out of the water and snapped at the large and colorful bird's tail feathers. With the macaw screeching, the dolphin dropped and pulled a couple tail feathers from the macaw. She released the feathers when she hit the water and swam off. The river dolphin chuckled to herself.
She surfaced again and looked around the shore line. Nothing much. Nothing that could hurt her, anyway. So she logged at the surface. Though this was a boring activity, it gave her time to rest from a day's hunting.

Holly was walking across the forest floor when she heard splashing and screatching nearby. Her ear's perked up and she ran towards the sound. The jaguar realized it was only a river dolphin and a dumb bird. She smirked, and climbed a tree and lay on a branch overhaning the river.
Well that wasn't very nice, Holly said to the river dolphin with a smile.

Nekatani dove and poked her head out of the water a second later. Who had said that? She looked around. Over there. On an overhanging branch. She let her head fall and swam over to the jaguar. There she poked her head out again and examined the big cat. Nothing really showed signs of attack. But just to be sure, Nekatani looked into the jaguar's eyes. The jaguar seemed lonely, wanting to play with someone. She smiled.
"I was only having a little fun. The parrot won't miss those feathers," she responded calmly.

Well in any case, I am sure he wont be going anywhere near river dolphins anymore, so all the better for them to come to me, Holly said with a laugh. She hardly ate birds but it made for a good story.
So, what are you doing in this river all by yourself?

Hm... what a question. How should she answer? Was she supposed to just tell the jaguar that humans killed her parents and she was a loner now? No. That would make the jaguar feel sorry for her. And she didn't want sympathy. It was the ansestors' chosen path for her parents, and that was all there was to it. So Nekatani just came up with a different answer.
"Oh, I'm just hunting for food," she whistled. "And yourself?"

Holly smiled. She should have known the question would come back to her. In fact, she had been wandering the woods ever since some zoo keepers dumped her here. They didn't even check on her every so often. She had barely made it out in this jungle, but now she was once again healthy.
There is no one to accompany me, so I am frequently by myself, Holly said with a warm smile. She liked to be alone, and she hated sympathy, so if any animal tryied to feel sorry for her because she had no family, she would tell them that she did not care, and she liked being alone.
I am Holly, by the way.

No sympathy came from this dolphin. She didn't like sympathy. This jaguar was similar to herself. Alone, but wanting someone to talk to. But the jaguar's introducing of herself caught her off guard. Normally others aked her name, then she asked their's. A new custom to her, but she dismissed the thought.
"I'm Nekatani," she whistled. "Pleased to make your aquaintence."

It is nice to meet you too Nekatani, Holly said. She knew most jaguars would attack a river dolphin, or anything else that moved, but she was lonely and wanted a friend.
So what exactly are you hunting for? Fish?
Holly was always interested in other species. She was always curious when it came to things she didn't know.

What an odd question. She hadn't really hadn't thought about what she was hunting for. Fish, mostly. Yeah. Fish.
"Fish, yes," she said. "What were you doing before you started to talk to me?"
This was a question nagging at her for a few minutes now. What had Holly been doing? Obviously she had been nearby when Nekatani had played with that macaw. But doing what?

Holly shook her head.
Nothing really. I was bored, so I thought I would go look for something to do.
It was the truth. She had no friends, no family, no one. She was a social kind of animal, and liked to talk to other animals. True, she liked her alone time a lot, but she could not live by herself forever. She needed someone to talk to. Even if it is a river dolphin.
